Are You Considering MTF Breast Augmentation?
Life isn’t easy when you’re a transgender woman or a transsexual woman. Firstly, there’s all the societal pressure that you experience on a daily basis. Then there’s the need to look more feminine that isn’t simply achieved by clothes and makeup.
Being born biologically male is frustrating when you know you are a woman who her outer appearance to match how she feels inside. Thankfully, medicine and technology have evolved enough to allow transwomen to achieve the body that they’ve always aspired to have.
MTF breast augmentation is an option available for transwomen to gain a more feminine body shape and appearance. The augmentation uses breast implants when hormone therapy proves to be insufficient in promoting the development of female breasts.
Gender dysphoria can be reduced through this method, since it allows women to better match their presentation to their identity.
What Does MTF Breast Augmentation Involve?
In order to achieve uniquely personalized results, Dr. Schnitt custom designs the size and projection of the breasts around the patient’s goals. The surgical process takes place under general anesthesia in order to ensure a comfortable and pain-free procedure.
The procedure involves Dr. Schnitt making a one-inch-long incision and using this to access the underlying tissues. Once a pocket is created in the tissues, the implant is inserted through the incision into the pocket.
Breast implants have an outer shell made of silicone polymer, and the inside is filled with either saline solution or silicone gel. There are many differences between these two implant types.
Silicone implants are firmer and smoother than saline implants. Silicone implants are more expensive than the saline ones and require larger incisions, since they come pre-filled. Saline implants can be filled during the procedure, allowing for greater customization.
Implants also come in various shapes and sizes. It is best advised to choose an implant that suits your physique.
The placement of the implants can also vary. One can have them placed either above or below the pectoral muscles to achieve their preferred look. Once the implants are in position, the incision is closed. The procedure takes up to one hour.
The recovery period can last up to six weeks, during which time doctors recommend holding back on any physical, sexual, or intimate activities that can cause a strain on the breast region.
To be eligible for the surgery, one must be at least 18 years old, be physically healthy with realistic expectations of the results, attend counselling sessions, and provide letters of recommendation to make sure they are mentally healthy.
Quitting smoking is also recommended for a time before and after the procedure to help avoid complications. Smoking causes the recovery process to take longer, since it affects the health of the skin.
